"Number one priority is to ensure the high street is crime free, child friendly and calm. No drug dealing, no loud speaker preaching at every corner. Only then you could start considering what type of audiences you would like to attract and how. Universally, you should consider looks - modern and beautiful planting, presentable shop frontages and public areas. Then comes recreation: some nice restaurants and cafes. Think also independant shops: vintage shops and other art shops to create character and atmosphere. Crystal Palace village has a nice vibe which can be somewhat recreated. Multi-storey car parks need to be cleaner safer and cheaper. Consider weekend events, particularly those that would be attractive to children. Again, focus on safety and look and feel first and only then invest in the rest."
