'Wellesley Road: the Lung of Croydon' - a future vision by Mark

"I imagine the Wellesley Road of the future, with its tall tower blocks where thousands of residents are living, as an avenue of trees and green spaces, free of car traffic.

In the avenue of the future, the existing 1960's underpass at the George's Street/Park Lane & Wellesley Road intersection, has been filled in, and motorised traffic has been diverted around the outskirts of the town. Wellesley Road is no longer a major routeway cutting Croydon in half, but it has been transformed into a human-friendly green avenue full of trees, grass squares, playgrounds and cafes. Trams, bicycles, pedestrians, and some cars with permits, will be travel along this new urban area. Now free of traffic, noise and pollution, Wellesley Road will draw in humans, and nature, looking for a quality urban environment in which to live. It will be transformed into a green, breathable space, 'the lung of Croydon' and become the natural 'centre' of Croydon. Looking forward to it : ) You've got to dream!"
